How to choose the right LED screen for your need? || GLIND
Choosing a LED display screen is not an easy task. We will have some questions in mind: how to choose the right LED screen for your need? how to choose the pixel pixels for your LED screen? Let’s find the answer together and take a look at the development process of LED display screen first.
1. Planned use and installation environment
2. Visual Quality and Viewing Experience
3. Screen Dimensions and Structure
4. Select Type of LED Display
The fourth generation: true color multi-grayscale display
With red, blue and pure green as the base colors, it can truly reproduce all colors of nature even beyond the range of natural colors in color coordinates. It can display a variety of video images and color advertising. Its gorgeous color, bright high brightness, exquisite contrast, and it has an excellent visual effect in the application of publicity and advertising fields.
The real color 5mm indoor large screen belongs to the fourth-generation product mentioned above. It has high brightness, not affected by the environmental brightness, thin thickness, smaller area occupation, various color, wide angle of view, can be applied in the spacious hall environment, without Mosaic image loss.
1. Planned use and installation environment
- Indoor or outdoor: Indoor screens do not require a high level of protection, nor do they require high brightness, and usually have a higher pixel density for close viewing. Outdoor screens need to be weather-resistant (rain, snow, dust, moisture) and have higher brightness to withstand direct sunlight.Permanent
- Fixed installation or portable rental: Permanent fixed installation outdoors may give priority to more durable cabinets and structures, while indoors consider using lighter and thinner cabinets and structures. Portable rental LED screens do not require a sturdy, easy-to-move design, while also being easy to install and disassemble, and easy to maintain.
2. Visual Quality and Viewing Experience
- Pixel pitch (P value): refers to the distance between individual LED pixels. Smaller pixel pitches (e.g. P1.25, P3) mean higher pixel density, clearer images, and higher resolution, ideal for close viewing. Larger pixel pitches (e.g. P5) are suitable for longer viewing distances, as smaller pitches unnecessarily increase costs and do not bring noticeable visual effects from a distance. A general rule of thumb for optimal viewing distance is 1 meter of viewing distance for every 1 mm of pixel pitch.
- Resolution: The higher the resolution, the finer and clearer the image. Therefore, when purchasing an LED display, you must consider the resolution of the screen. If it is used outdoors, then choose an outdoor LED display with large spacing and high brightness to save costs. If it is used indoors, then choose a high-resolution, small LED pixel spacing, and high-definition Micro TV LED display.
- Brightness (NITS): Brightness is critical to visibility. Outdoor LED screens generally require higher brightness (e.g., 5000 CD/m² or more) than indoor screens (e.g., 1000 CD/m² or more) to display clearly under various lighting conditions. Some LED displays offer automatic dimming for optimal viewing at night and to save power.
- Viewing angle: Ensure that the screen can be clearly displayed from different positions without distortion or degradation of image quality, so when choosing an LED display, the viewing angle of the LED display is also an important consideration. Curved LED screens,LED dome display or LED spherical screens can improve the viewing angle.
- Content requirements: Consider the type and resolution of the content you want to display (e.g., live broadcast, presentation, static image). Ideally, the LED screen resolution should be consistent with or higher than the resolution of the source content for the best display effect. If it is a TV live broadcast or movie shooting, the requirements for the LED display are higher, not only requiring the LED wall to have a high refresh rate, but also good consistency, and may require different form sizes.
- LED Type: Different LED diode types (SMD, MiniLED, MicroLED) offer varying characteristics in brightness, black levels, and durability.
3. Screen Dimensions and Structure
- Screen Size: Determine the required length and height of the screen based on the venue, audience size, and content visibility needs.
- Structural Support and Power: For permanent fixed installations, plan for adequate structural support (e.g., metal beams, welding) and sufficient power supply (e.g., dedicated circuits for large screens).
The development process of LED display products
In general, the development of large LED screen has undergone the following development stages:
The first generation: monochrome LED display
With single red as the primary color, display text and simple patterns, mainly used for notices, announcements, and passenger flow guidance system.
The second generation: dual-color multi-grayscale display screen
With red and yellow-green as the base color, but without blue, it can only be called false color, which can display multi-gray images and videos. At present, it is widely used in telecommunications, banking, taxation, hospitals, government agencies and other occasions, mainly displaying slogans, public service advertisements and image publicity information.
The third generation: full color multi-gray display screen
Red, blue and yellow-green as the base colors, which can show more realistic images, are gradually replacing the previous generation of products.

After looking back to the development process of LED display screens, we can have a general idea of its history and will have a clue in which types of LED screens we will need.

According to its application environment, LED screen can be divided into two categories: indoor LED screens and outdoor LED screens.
Select Type Of LED Display
Indoor LED screens are being used in indoor environments. This type has moderate brightness, large viewing angle, light weight, high density, which is suitable for close viewing.
Outdoor LED screens are being used in outdoor environments. This type has high brightness, high protection level, strong waterproof levels and anti-ultraviolet, which is suitable for remote viewing.
When you’re planning to choose a LED screen, you can consider it is used in indoor or outdoor environment. Then find the LED screen for your budget and your need.
